Offering Virtual Classes in Response to Covid-19

Virtual Educational Therapy

Because of the coronavirus epidemic, educational therapists were faced with a huge obstacle to overcome. Thank goodness for Zoom! We all went to work with our students via online virtual sessions. In the beginning this was uncharted territory, but as we all adjusted to this new normal, many positive things began to emerge. I am working with all of my students online, and I have been able to incorporate the same programs that I have been so successful using. I use zoom as a platform and have developed a very interactive approach to my sessions. My students have really taken to this format and love working with me online. I am very grateful that this new way of working is proving to be so successful!

Student

I work with students in grades K-12th in all areas of intervention.  This includes Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, auditory processing, visual processing, ADHD, executive function, and organizational skills. Behaviors play an important part of children with learning disabilities such as anxiety, oppositional behavior, sensory integrations, and avoidance. It is essential that the behaviors are addressed as well as the learning issues. Students have different needs as they move through their school years. In my practice, I am constantly evaluating and changing interventions as my clients grow and move through each school year. Children come to me who have had psycho-educational assessments which enables me to know exactly the areas of disabilities. Some students come to me who have not had formal testing, so I assess to understand their academic needs.  Either way, I develop interventions to remediate and ensure their academic success.

Summer Intensives

The summer is an excellent time to address a student’s learning needs in a six-week comprehensive workshop. The intervention during the summer addresses a student’s deficits using explicit and multi-sensory instruction. Students can concentrate and work in the areas that are challenging them during the school year. These intensive workshops not only support an academic area but also develops confidence that carries them into the new school year.
